  🍂 Happy Thanksgiving from Grade 1! 🦃 Happy Thanksgiving! We had a wonderful week of learning and celebrating all the things we are thankful for. We read Thanksgiving stories, drew our own turkeys, and wrote about what we're thankful for. It was lovely to hear how much our students appreciate so many special things! Math: We continued to explore numbers to 20, practicing how to represent numbers in different ways using pictures, numerals, and hands-on materials. We also learned how to collect and organize data using tally marks. Phonics: We focused on the letters b, l, and k and practiced building word chains by changing one letter at a time. We also used our growing phonics skills as we read a decodable text, blending and reading words using the letter sounds we have learned. Science: We continued exploring the signs of fall! We observed the changes happening in the natural world and discussed how the weather, trees, and plants change as the seasons shift. 🦃 Turkey Trouble...

 Looking Back: 🌟 A Busy Week in Grade 1! 🌟 We had another busy week filled with learning, exploring, and celebrating our progress! 📚 Phonics & Reading This week, we learned the letters and sounds H, O, and R . We also took an exciting next step in our reading journey by beginning to blend sounds together to read simple CVC words . Students practiced putting individual sounds together to read words such as hot, hop, and rot . We are learning that each sound we know helps us become stronger readers! 🔢 Math In math, we learned about tally marks and how they can be used to quickly record and count quantities. Students practiced making groups of five and using tallies to represent numbers. 🦸 Zero the Hero – Day 20! Zero the Hero helped us celebrate Day 20 ! We talked about how two groups of ten make 20 and explored different ways to represent this number. Students played “Race to Twenty,” using a 20-frame and counters.
